Yes to all of this! I often assume to know what is best when I travel and so when I realize I’m wrong, it’s a blow to my ego but opens me up to so much. .

Well said! A very helpful reminder as I prepare for an upcoming trip to Europe. I find it very challenging to allow myself just to fully “enjoy” while experiencing new places. But when I do, or “surrender” as you’ve put it, it really is the best feeling and allows you to experience life more authentically. Wishing you much Il dolce far niente wherever you travel this summer!

What a great read! We loved our trip to Puglia, especially our three nights in Monopoli. We spent maybe 10 minutes in Polignano A Mare and were eager to move on with our guide. It’s a wonderful region and we’re dying to go back. Q

I've been back to Puglia many times since then! Puglia and the towns in the Amalfi Coast are quite different! Think of it like this: if the Amalfi Coast is like a glamorous opera set on a cliff, Puglia is a quiet indie film unfolding across sun-soaked farmland. Puglia gives you room to breathe and roam; the towns in the Amalfi Coast give you drama and dazzle—but also crowds and higher prices...
